The definitions below are restricted to terms which appear on this site.
Articulated cuff: Refers to the upper portion of a crutch which wraps around the forearm, mounted using a hinge or other system which allows for articulation. An articulated cuff, typically of the full cuff type, allows the user to release the grip without dropping the crutch, ie. to shake someone's hand.
Ambulatory aids: see Walking aids.
Canadian crutch: see Forearm crutch.
Cane holder: A small spring-loaded device which attaches onto the tubing of a cane or crutch allowing the walking aid to rest on a tabletop or be wedged beneath it.
Clip®: A patented mechanism for crutch height adjustment. Easier and safer than a push-button, all Walk Easy crutches feature a Clip adjustment. (instructions for adjustment).
Cuff: The forearm crutch "sleeve" which wraps around the arm below the elbow. A cuff is referred to as either full or half.
Elbow crutch: see Forearm crutch.
Forearm crutch: Type of crutch with a plastic or metal cuff that wraps around the forearm. Commonly used by longer-term crutch users due to its light weight and energy preservation qualities. Also known as an elbow crutch, Canadian crutch or Lofstrand® crutch.
Full cuff: A type of cuff which wraps around the forearm. Features a narrow front slot or opening, allowing the crutch to release under excessive pressure. Erroneously referred to as a "closed" cuff.
Half cuff: An "open" cuff within which the forearm rests. Preferred by some users as it is less confining than a full cuff. Especially well-suited to individuals who use only one forearm crutch in lieu of a cane.
Lofstrand® crutch: a forearm crutch brand which is now used to describe a forearm crutch. 
Platform crutch: A type of crutch that allows a user to rest his forearms in a padded support or "trough", typically in a horizontal position. Hands wrap around a grip at the end of each support. This type of crutch is particularly suited to individuals who cannot rest their weight on their hands.
Pivoflex® tip: A patented crutch/cane tip molded to allow a slight pivoting action. Comes standard on all Walk Easy crutches.
Quad cane: Refers to a walking aid similar to a regular cane with 4 prongs. These allow the cane to stand upright by itself.
Tripod cane: Refers to a walking aid similar to a regular cane with 3 prongs. These allow the cane to stand upright by itself.
Underarm crutch: Refers to a type of crutch typically constructed of double tubes (in wood or aluminum) tapering into a single tube at the bottom.
Walking aids: A general term which includes any device which assists a person in walking. This includes, but is not limited to, crutches, canes and walkers.
